I want to see growth and development in the kids. That is the key aspect of my program for me. I believe that communication, consistency, and structure are key elements to growth and development. I also value the communication and relationship with parents, because that's where everything starts. I know that if the children see a good bond between the parents and me, it is easier for the children to bond with me too. I even encourage parents, when they can, to stay with the kids in my home for an hour or so the first couple of days in the program so that the children ease into it better. I strive for both parents and children to feel comfortable to ensure the highest level of care, growth, and development. I am always there for the parents, whether they need my help as an emergency on a weekend or want to drop by the program anytime during the day. They might catch us doing some of our favorite activities, like circle time where they all can participate, floor activities, or playing music. I treat each child as my own but adhere to what parents say is best. I am very attentive to allergies and am happy to give the children preferred snacks provided by the parents. What is NeighborSchools? NeighborSchools helps experienced caregivers launch and operate licensed home daycares in Massachusetts. With better ratios and experienced caretakers, home daycare allows for more individualized attention for infants and toddlers. Red Apple

91 Belmont St Everett, MA

Red Apple is a bilingual family child care that provides a fun educational curriculum. Children will have a great day while they learn new things. The daily interaction with the children is what we find so satisfying. We love watching the reading process unfold and never tire of helping children unlock the mysteries of print. We also love all the ways that children come to make sense of their world-through dramatic play, art, music, investigations, exploration, thinking mathematically, playing around with language. We like creating opportunities for their learning and supporting and challenging them as they figure things out. Our daycare offers a range of educational services depending on the age of the child. For infants, we focus primarily on emotional development, relationship, and developmental tasks, and are acutely aware of the integrated nature of all these domains of development. We show them the appropriate ways to use the equipment. We make as much as more eye to eye interaction, verbal language, and appropriate equipment to help them to explore the world. We do skin-to-skin contact with infants to let them feel safe and secure. We guide them to practice sit, crawl, stand, walk, and develop their language skills. Toddlers and Preschoolers children are given an explanation of what they are doing that is inappropriate and redirected or told what is appropriate. We guide them to practice sharing, helping, and cooperating. We help them to improve social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and language skills. We plan the appropriate curriculum to improve their academic skills, such as literacy, problem-solving, and creative development. I had obtained an Associate degree in Early Childhood and Education. I am in a home Daycare license by the State of MA, CPR, and First Aid Certify, also I am a licensed Early Education Teacher and Lead Teacher. Our language is English and Mandarin. We provide fresh homemade breakfast, lunch, and snacks every day to all children. We hope the families could cooperate with us to support our children to be successful in meeting later school expectations.

Stepping Stones Family Care

47 Clifton Street Malden, MA

Stepping Stones is a warm and nurturing community where your infant, toddler, or preschool child will thrive socially and academically. It is a fully licensed daycare/preschool that is run by a BPS teacher and mother of two from a gorgeous and spacious Victorian home across the street from a newly renovated playground and park in Malden, Massachusetts. A little bit about me, the director of Stepping Stones Family Care, my name is Nicole Tamarisk, and I am a mother of two, but I am also a Public School English Teacher with over 8 years of teaching experience. Since Stepping Stones is only offering a total of five spots for prospective clients, the teacher to student ratio will allow me to work closely with each child and his/her family from infancy throughout the toddler and preschool years. This type of setting allows me to support these future scholars as they grow and develop. I am offering mixed aged groups (Infancy through preschool) the chance to learn and thrive in a family environment. For the preschoolers, I plan on providing instruction on letters, numbers, and a curriculum based largely on the Montessori method that fosters independence and a love of learning in children. I also plan to provide yoga, music, and Spanish instruction for the students. I am really excited to be able to continue raising my family and getting an opportunity to be closer to them, while still teaching, which is what I love to do! The daily routine offered here at Stepping Stones will create an environment where your children can experience a variety of planned and unplanned (yet intentional) activities. Your child will thrive under a balance of active and quiet times and in individual and multi-aged group settings. Family childcare settings are usually much smaller than childcare centers and for that reason, the amount of personal attention your child will be receiving will be of the highest quality. As a public school teacher with more than eight years of experience, it is of the utmost importance to me to provide an environment for children where they will learn and thrive. In our circle time children will sit together to sing a song, we will go over the calendar and the days of the week. We will explore a seasonal and/or thematic curriculum that helps kids learn the seasons, holidays, and how to be responsible citizens in their community. Our family care could certainly provide the right stepping stones for your children's future. Please make an appointment today.

The vision for this daycare was born out of the difficult experience of my own childhood. Being asked to sit still in a classroom for several hours a day was the opposite of my instinct to play in nature. I could hardly wait for recess to go explore rocks and trees and find peace and a feeling of being at home in the natural rhythms of the New England seasons. I didn't want my daughter to have the same experience. So I sought to create an environment that was inspired by Montessori principles and Nature School principles. The goal is for children to be self-guided in their discovery of themselves as a part of the natural world. The curriculum and design of the space creates little separation between nature and the learning experience of the children. This allows them to freely engage in the mystery of nature and cultivates the wonder that all children naturally possess. This means there is absolutely no technology or screens and much of the day is spent exploring the outdoors. The area is filled with mature oak trees, large rocks, hills, moss, and different types of plants. There is also an abundance of wildlife, from many species of birds to squirrels and chipmunks and even a family of groundhogs that lives on the premises (my daughter squeals with delight when she sees them). The indoor area is adorned with trees, woodland animals and is inspired by Native American culture which is part of my ancestry. In fact, the Massachusett tribe lived in this area at Pine Banks Park. Part of the curriculum is for children to go there and experience the sacred connection to nature that has been lost in modern society. In summary, Oak Haven Daycare is designed to enable children to learn by freely exploring the wonders and mysteries of the natural world. What is NeighborSchools? My program is a small, mixed-age group, and we all become very attached to each other--it really is very much like a family. I am located in Boston, close to the Longwood Medical Area. I have a well-equipped home with three levels of interesting space and a small backyard. We also have a wagon-for-six for trips around the neighborhood, and a minivan filled with car seats (and with a triple stroller folded up in back) for field trips to the zoo, the science museum, and other cool places around Boston. The mixed-age grouping contributes to a cooperative rather than a competitive environment--it's the norm to have a different skill level, since children are different ages, and your friends will just naturally offer to help if you don't know how to do something. The curriculum is child-centered and play-based, by which I mean that I guide activities mostly by preparing the environment and selecting the playthings. Then I let the children engage in play and discovery. I'm here to model appropriate behavior, set limits, read books, add or subtract materials, keep everybody clean, fed, safe, and loved, and generally keep things moving smoothly. We have a wonderful time! I have three major goals for the children in my group: positive self-concept, social skills, and language skills. If you are confident and excited about your world and your ideas, know how to make and keep friends, and communicate well, you are well on your way to academic and personal success. I am licensed for six children, but prefer to have a group of four or five per day, depending on the ages of the children. I sometimes do have six children, when alumni come to visit or when I simply can't work out the schedule any other way. Children typically start the program at age one and continue until age four or five. I try to provide everything so that parents don't have to pack a huge bag each day. Food, diapers, and field trip expenses are all included in the daily rate--there are no extra charges. I serve a ovo-lacto vegetarian menu. There are lots of pets--turtle, geckos, fish--which provide a wonderful anchor for the science curriculum, since they all need different food and different environments. We also do things like hatching chicken eggs, planting seeds, making collections of pine cones and other natural objects. A dog and two cats live in the house, and petting and playing with them contribute a lot of comfort and interest.

At Miles of Smiles Childcare, we are always focused on learning, but in ways that are fun and engaging. I think everyone-children and adults-learns best when they're having fun. Even when we are doing something ordinary, I'll sing a song about it; the kids think it's so funny, and it really keeps their attention. Throughout the day, we review the alphabet and other lessons, dance and sing songs, create arts and crafts, and read and tell stories. I always incorporate lots of sensory play into our days. In the backyard, I fill buckets with water and place toys inside, so kids can explore the different textures and really let their imaginations run wild. I also make boxes with sand or shredded paper and bury objects inside. Sometimes you can create the best toys out of the simplest items! What is NeighborSchools? Since I opened Linda's Family Child Care in 2002, my mission has been to provide excellent, licensed child care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a family child care home. I believe parents shouldn't struggle when deciding between a family child care and a center or preschool. Their children should receive the best of both worlds. So, I created a child care program that offers the closeness, attentiveness, and homeyness of a warm and nurturing home environment as well as the stimulation, learning experiences, and variety of a center or preschool. The program is usually bilingual between English and Spanish. The kids get to work with both languages, which gives them a huge advantage in life. I am very hands-on with the kiddos and love to play with them. We play music, we go on field trips, we do art, reading, and tons of engaging learning through play. For outdoor play, we go to the playground behind my home or the historical navy yard around the corner where the children can learn about history and also play in the water fountain in the summer. We're also partnered with an agency called Child Development that facilitates field trips for the kids as well. We'll go sometimes to the aquarium, go for picnics, and even involve parents in the trips too! We firmly believe that a busy kid is a happy kid! My favorite activity to do with the kids is art. I love working with different mediums and seeing how the children express themselves differently. I am so proud of everything they create! Something that is super important to me is nutrition. I love to cook and always prepare meals for the children that are healthy and filling. I even give parents food when they come to scoop their child up and they give me the best compliments! It makes me so happy to send the children home with a full belly. My overall mission is to provide the highest quality care that I can from the time they're enrolled in my program to the time they set off for school. I provide the educational resources plus the development in other areas, such as social and emotional, that the children need in order to be prepared for the future. And I do it all in the most fun way! When they go to kindergarten or preschool, I know they're all set and that they've developed a love for learning that will stay with them for years to come.
