Mature, Experienced, English-Speaking Caregiver
I am a responsible, experienced caregiver who really likes the work. I have many years serving the elderly, and am currently looking to increase my workload. I greatly enjoy oldsters and consider it a privilege to be of help to them. I treat them as I would my own parents.
GENERAL: As a semi-retired, work-at-home business person and empty-nester, I have flexible hours and can adjust my work schedule as necessary. I have a college degree attained in 1973 and a graphic arts company started in 1980, then downsized to a one-person, part-time operation in 2001. I ran a household for 22 years while raising 2 children; cared for my granddaughter two days a week from birth until age 5. I am self-educated regarding health matters and nutrition. Physically fit, I am able to address most transfer needs. My care-giving clients and their families have appreciated my reliability, friendliness and patience.
2001-05: 4 years of caring my 94-year-old father, who was blind and used a walker. Cooked and did laundry, gave meds, took to appointments and church; addressed continence needs.
2006-07: Took in a 99-year-old wheelchair-bound, deaf woman whose elderly only child was unable to care for her. She lived in my home, and I attended to her day and night, including bathing, diapering, purchasing and administering medications and other personal products; meal preparation of soft foods; wound care and healthy skin maintenance; interacting with medical personnel who came to see her, as well as taking her to doctor appointments and assuring her overall comfort and care.
2008-10: Worked consecutively at 2 agencies, taking care of elderly couples part-time in their homes or in an assisted living home. Duties included cleaning, shopping, transportation to/from appointments, bill paying and helping to organize their living arrangements.
2012-present: Irregular but ongoing care of an 88-year-old widow living in an independent living facility, filling in for her "regular" caregiver; involves driving, shopping, companionship.
2011-15: Regular weekend hours as a fill-in caregiver for an elderly widow at an independent senior village. Family wanted her to be able to stay in her apartment until she passed away, rather than moving her to a nursing home, eventually leading to her needing care during all waking hours. Care involved meal prep, hygiene, dressing and bathing, light housework. We became good friends for many years.
