Companion Care Needed For My Grandmother In Branford - My 96-year...
$16 – $26/hr • Full time • Starts May 24 • Branford, CT
About who needs care: My 96-year-old grandma recently moved back to her own home after recovering from a hip fracture last July. Uponleaving short-term rehab, she went to live with my aunt for a few months, but it wasn't a good fit. Now, my grandma is back in her own home and my dad who is 73 is living there to keep a watchful eye on her except he needs to have two knee replacements. My grandma is sharp as a tack and can do many things on her own, but doesn't really trust herself to be alone. She is capable of making breakfast and lunch, but could use some help with preparing dinner and light housekeeping. She is also partially deaf in one ear and slightly hard of hearing in the other. She doesn't have her natural teeth and her dentures no longer fit so she prefers softer, but very flavorful foods. She is able to toilet herself, but wears Depends overnight and has a commode next to her bed, which she is able to use on her own during the night. She even empties the commode on her own in the morning, but could probably use some assistance with this task. She would appreciate having someone to keep her company and tuck her in at bedtime. My grandma loves watching the daily mass, reading, praying, watching gameshows, sports, and the news. She's quite pleasant to be around, but does get overwhelmed very easily. She's always had anxiety, but it's been elevated even more since she fell. Having someone to keep her company, especially while my dad is recuperating from his surgeries, and to reassure her that everything is okay would be very helpful.
About the care needs: The ideal caregiver needs to be patient and very compassionate, especially when it comes to calming my grandma's fears and speaking loudly so that she can hear.
