About who needs care: Do they have any underlying conditions?
She struggles with high blood pressure. She has recently had a hip replacementand moves with a walker. She moves rather slowly and is low energy. She has arthritis in her hands which limits her manual dexterity. She had a dislocated shoulder years ago that never healed quite right, so her strength and mobility is compromised. Nonetheless, she is extremely independent. She has been driving (although this may be about to change). She cooks for herself, although it takes much effort. She walks with a walker most of the time.
What are their hobbies/interests?
She is intelligent, articulate and lonely. She's interested in dance, theater, and current events. She keeps up with the news and reads a lot. She is very independent but her recent health issues may require extra support.
How would they structure their ideal day?
We will discuss this with her, but I can assure you that it will be very orderly with clear routines and schedules. It will be simple and involve things like getting up, dressed, eating, reading, etc. It is important to her to engage in intelligent conversation.
About the care needs: What type of personality would be a good fit?
They should know how to gently de-escalate a situation if Glenna were to get agitated or frustrated. They should be good communicators, intelligent and patient.
Are there any specialized skills they need?
Right now, nothing comes to mind, but she may at some point need help with basic medical tasks and first aid such as taking blood pressure and organizing her medications.
Should they have any specific hobbies/interests?
If the caregiver was interested in talking about books and current events, that would be great. Glenna is an avid reader of The New York Times.
