About who needs care: Job description:
Seeking compassionate and dependable caregivers!
I am looking to add to an established team of 3caregivers to provide round-the-clock, in-home care for my mom, Carol.
My mom has mid-stage Parkinsons, mild cognitive impairment, and osteoporosis. She has a very friendly indoor cat companion, Simba, and she lives in a thoughtfully designed, caregiver-supportive, single-bedroom independent apartment in a lovely senior living community.
Bio about Carol:
It is not necessary to remain awake for night shifts. There is a comfortable hide-a-bed couch in living room. Mom wakes up 1-2x a night for toileting. Her regular sleep schedule is 9 pm - 7 am, and she enjoys a daily nap.
Everyday personal care service responsibilities include:
Companionship and social activities support. The senior community she lives in has a great number of activities that she enjoys attending, but she also likes her down time, watching TV and calling friends.
Mom is social, but really enjoys her quiet and alone time, and has a wonderful disposition. She cares a great deal about her appearance- she is an earrings on and lipstick-whenever-you-go-out kind of lady. Attending Catholic services held in the chapel are important to her. No driving is necessary. She has PT/strength training 3 days a week. Coordinating her daily activities schedule and ensuring she is ready on time, with time for smooth and relaxed transitions is essential to the job.

(i.e: Carol is still asleep when Judy comes to portion out morning medications.)
Chart Activities of Daily Living (including medication consumption times when necessary her med manager Judy oversees Carols medication and charts it.)
Efficient and safe bed to toilet to walker to recliner transfers are essential. Carol is partial weight bearing, particularly struggling with balance and leg strength. Requires oversight and physical support walking and during a transfers, including standing up and sitting down.
Always ensure proper body mechanics. During transfers, always remind Carol to make full-step turns, fully pivoting her body. Ensure Carols feet, legs and torso/spine are aligned BEFORE she returns to a sit-down position or when laying in bed.
She should be encouraged to walk with her walker, but has a wheelchair if needed.
She uses the toilet, but has occasional bladder incontinence. She does well with reminding every couple of hours.
Other position duties:
- Bathing
- Toileting
- Navigating television and misc. technology
- Clothing selection and dressing
- Providing appointment reminders
- Light housekeeping and keeping things tidy (there is a weekly cleaning service)
- Laundry
- Making the bed, changing linens
- Escorting within the facility
- Personal hygiene (brushing teeth, styling hair, makeup application, etc.)
- Feed cat and periodically empty self-cleaning litter box.
- Cooking meals is not necessary, as they are provided in the community where she lives, but offering food and picking up the meals from the dining room, and providing her snacks and beverages are essential.
Qualities I am seeking in a caregiver include, excellent communication and listening skills, patience, efficient and good at multi-tasking, detail-oriented, great attitude, and respectful and responsible.
Must provide own meals, beverages and snacks.
No smoking or drinking allowed in the home.
Paid weekly.
About the care needs: Mom loves watching HGTV and visiting with friends. She is recently widowed and it has been difficult for her.
