Teachers, new and old alike are amazing, but new management has strained many relationships causing teachers to quit and care to shift often. It feels like a very unstable situation for parents that I would not suggest to others. My child does appear to be taken care of well, but I live in fear that the teacher will change again with short or no notice. Also, prices listed here are going up in September 2017.

The teachers are great--loving and kind, and seem to really enjoy caring for the children. My 9 month old has been there for 6 months and loves it. I feel like the kids are always sick but everyone I know says this is common for daycare babies so I don't blame the center. They are vigilant to tell other parents if one child has been diagnosed with something more serious than a common cold and they do ask people to get their children cleared to come back after something more than a cold. There have been comments about the Director being difficult to work with but this has not been our experience. In any event she is leaving soon so that should not be an issue hopefully for others going forward

I am the mother of two children currently enrolled in Guiding Star and have been with the center for almost three years. I find the management and staff approachable and easy to communicate with. They are always coming up with creative activities and fun themes for the children. The older children even have opportunities for field trips around Bethesda (story time at the library, meet with a nutritionist at the grocery store, etc.). Watching the teachers interact with my children provides constant reassurance that this is the right place for us. Each day I am amazed at how much my children have learned. The quality of care, guidance, and education is more than what I imagined a daycare could offer and it's also an amazing value for this location. The other parents, together with the management and staff really make the center feel like one big family.

My Daughter attended Guiding Star at the Joy Home from the age of 3 months to 15 months. The teacher's were qualified and kind although seemed to have a higher turn over rate than they advertise. However, the center's management is hard to work with and unaccountable. They close frequently for inclement weather. Emails to management were often met with no response, or multiple responses that were disjointed and directly contradicted each other. We were frequently left off communications about the center and how teacher placement would affect our child. Overall, the center is mis-managed but the care was adequate.
