I have had 2 family members in this facility over the last 10 years. My grandmother had a disease that had abnormal symptoms and required specialist treatment. One occasion when she was deathbed sick, the nurse refused to send her to the ER. As POA you have the right to call emergency services for doing it. The nurse threatened to call the police and have me removed from the facility. I told her to do it. EMS came, it took over an hour to get from the facility to the ER, (5 minute drive), and she ended up in emergency surgery. Fast forward about 3 years. Changes and promises got her taken off wait lists for other places. Unknown to our family, after reports from her specialist she needed ANOTHER surgery to the facility, they stopped sending her, while telling us they were treating her. Fast forward 3 years later: she was sent to the ER dying from lack of treatment without any family being notified. ER contacted family. Family contacted state. Woman who investigates? Related to the owners. The state of Maine has no centralized database, no flagging system, no way to prioritize or keep track of repeat offenders. Open shut slap on the wrist for failure to contact family without medical records review. Nothing much more we could do for fear of safety with remaining family member. Social worker told remaining family member she had to change her POA and her DNR status unless she wanted to die a horrible death like other person. She was scared to report things happening and faked being senile. Now at her death, staff has stolen belongings. Don't put your family here.
