I am surprised by the high regard in which the previous rater spoke of Darnisha and her husband, the original owners. If you review the DHS correction order from the past few years, you will see that they did not run a business focused on quality childcare. She talked a good game, but did not know how to deliver, and bullied her way with her staff. As you can see she did not even follow proper procedures for selling the business and therefore there was a license revocation. I feel bad for the new owners, not truly knowing what they were getting themselves into and for all the parents and children who were duped over the years.

Our daughter attended Artisticrats for her first year of life. We loved it originally and the owners in 2015 had a ton of experience in childcare and hired staff that did as well. They believed in an artistic curriculum, an organic menu, and supporting cloth diapering as that is important to the families they serve. James and the other staff took wonderful care of her through various allergic reactions and other complications with her early life. They were flexible and loving, and held the same values we did in regards to the care of our dear one.

The original owners chose to sell the business in the summer of 2016 and the level of care has degraded ever since. The new owners do not have a background in childcare. They do not seem to understand that their relationship with their customers is built on parents trusting the people that care for their children. Their communication has been poor, with the majority coming via vague emails. They only hosted a parent meeting to discuss issues with licensing and staffing issues when the parents got together and requested it. A large amount of children (approximately half at this point) have chosen to leave the center in favor of better care. The state required ratios are not being upheld and the previous owner's experience and expertise has disappeared from the center. This leaves many parents concerned about the viability of the business long-term, not to mention concerned about the level of care their children are receiving. As of today, the director/chef has also been let go without a replacement in place. The new owners are currently operating the center but do not hold the license from the state to do so.

As a parent, I feel it important to share this information so others are aware of why there are suddenly so many openings at a center that appears ideal. As members of the community, my family wants nothing more than for a local business to thrive. But we will not support a childcare provider that we do not believe has the best interest of our children at heart.

Please check the DHS public site for citations on this center, including a finding of maltreatment over the summer once the original owners had turned over the operation. http://licensinglookup.dhs.state.mn.us/
