Hello Parents of all Ages, The Early childhood period is very important because these are the valuable stages in which children brain is developing. During the age Birth to Age five, children are learning important, exciting, creative and imaginary things for each stage in their lives. It is my belief that children learn best through communication, bonding, nurturing, being in a safe and healthy environment, exploring the outdoors and most importantly through love. I believe that the most educational aspect in an infant to school-age life is their Physical, Social, and Mental Learning Environment. A healthy environment allows children to explore, take the initiative to seeing how things work, problem solve and communicate with peers while learning and building on their vocabulary. Deciding to work in the field of Early childhood became a goal. The goal of wanting to help each child develop while strengthening their weakness and challenging their strengths. It Is important to give children the tools to grow, be curious and take the initiative to learn how to think outside of the box. I have taken on the responsibility of creating a daily routine and lesson in which children are dedicated to and value their own interest and skills while I myself document the children progress in the early stages of education. Education doesn't start in a school; education start at home. The first stages of learning is bonding which allows children to form that connection with the teachers, educators and parents. Coming from a field of social work; my job was listening to the parents not the building and gaining the trust of the children. I felt if you had the trust of the parent, the child would adjust and connect with you. After being in the field for nearly twenty years, I was introduced to the Early Learning Guidelines handbook. This book showed me the stages of growth, what development stages a child should be at according to their age and how educators like myself can support the children. I've come to realize that a trusting relationship with adults is about listen carefully to what the child has to say. Expand on the conversation by asking question to things that interest them. Observe children in group and independently allowed me focus on what are their area of strengthen and areas of weakness were. Early Childhood wasn't my first career of chose; looking back over the years on how I've became knowledgeable, took trainings and educational course. I'm a leader!

Epiphany Community Nursery School

510 East 74th Street New York, NY

Preschool
After 40 years of fine-tuning, the core philosophy of Epiphany Community Nursery School (ECNS) centers on positive self-image, curiosity, creativity and independence. We want the children to feel good about themselves, to enjoy coming to school, and love learning. We also value exploration and asking questions; we want children to see learning as a process, as a quest, in which knowledge is the ultimate reward. Creativity is also extremely important. Children should be encouraged to express themselves in a variety of ways, through different media, through movement, and through language skills. And finally, independence school must encourage children to grow and, ultimately, grow away from their small worlds into the larger one that awaits them. The environment and program at ECNS are carefully planned to meet the needs of the young child for play, socialization and individual attention. The curriculum is flexible and recognizes the importance of each child as a distinct personality, developing at his/her own pace. However, there is a regular, constant sequence of daily activities and a clear order in the arrangement of materials and equipment to help the child gain self-confidence. Routines are introduced from the start for the same reason. We plan and implement experiences for the children designed to facilitate optimal cognitive development. Our curriculum framework and general activity areas and materials in the classroom generate the specifics of the cognitive curriculum. ECNS was founded in 1975 as an autonomous educational institution by the Board of Regents for the Educational Department of the State of New York and is a member of both the Parents League and the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York. There is no chapel, no prayer, and no formal religious celebration of any sort. We are an interdenominational, melting pot school and open our doors to all children, regardless of race, religion, national or ethnic origin or family circumstances. Epiphany Community Nursery School abides by the admissions guidelines of the Independent School Admissions Association.

Child care
Circle Academy began in 1982 when two women had a vision for an alternative to public school education. After in-depth research and investigation into alternative methods of educating children, their ultimate goal was to provide children with smaller class sizes and the respect of acknowledging that every child learns at their own pace and in their own way. The cornerstone of the Montessori philosophy was built on this vision to respect each child's individuality. It is the Montessori belief to educate the whole child as well as making parents a prominent part of their child's education.. With this vision in mind, they presented their ideas to the Board of Regents and were granted an Absolute Charter which enabled them to begin Circle Academy and educate children from Nursery through grade 6. Circle Academy became an institution in which parents saw the success of this philosophy within their children as the population of Circle Academy grew more diversified. We presently are licensed by the New York City Department of Health to accommodate children ages 2-5 years. In order to ensure a safe and healthy environment, all of our staff members must attend special trainings and receive certifications approved by the Department of Health. All members of our staff must be fingerprinted, state-cleared and have a yearly medical prior to becoming a member of our staff. In addition, all of our teachers are state-certified, licensed in Early-Childhood education. We also hold an Absolute Charter from the New York State Department of Education. Circle Academy's success is anchored on the belief that "every child's individuality must be respected and nourished. It is therefore our mission to provide a safe, nurturing and engaging environment to young children in our community so that they can become active members of society. Circle Academy is an independent, not-for-profit charter school specializing in early childhood development. Our success is built on respecting every child's individuality. Circle Academy believes that early childhood education is a time of fun, warmth, security, exploration, discovery and most importantly building self-esteem. We view parents as partners in the education of their children and we work collaboratively with our staff, parents and the entire community to guide our students in their learning process. Our ultimate goal is to build the most beneficial foundation for a child's future educational experience.
