Let's make sure you ask
the right questions.
Factors that impact cost
There are several factors that influence costs for senior care. Please take the following into account as you are planning for how to pay for care.
The costs included are averages across all levels of care. Generally, the more care needed, the more costly care becomes. So expect prices to rise if your loved one needs significant hands-on care. If your loved one needs minimal care, costs might decrease slightly.
Some home care agencies vary pricing based on total number of hours of care needed. There may even be a minimum number of hours required. Holidays and weekends, live-in care and "on call" or emergency backup care typically have more costs associated with them.
A couple who requires care together may impact price depending upon the level of care needed by each individual.
If you have expectations that your selected care provider will take on additional responsibilities around the house that may increase rates.
Individual provider rates will vary based on their years of experience and any special schooling or certification they have, such as Certified Nursing Assistant or Personal Care Aide certification.
Most facilities will have a base package that includes basic services and additional services are charged separately. Depending upon unique needs and desire for services, this can significantly impact total costs.
