My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2005. In 2008, she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and since that time I have been her sole caregiver, 24/7.
In 2009 I moved here to Alabama to help my Dad care for his elderly sister who was 82 at the time. She has COPD and Emphysema, is on oxygen all the time and has strength and mobility issues.
As my mother's illnesses progressed, she had serious mobility issues as well. She became wheelchair bound in October 2012. She required help to stand and especially to walk. Her mobility declined, her mental awareness declined and her cancer was allowed to run its course. I kept her at home for the duration, and February 10, 2013 she passed peacefully at home while I was at her side.
I have truly enjoyed taking care of both my aunt and my mother. I loved working with the nurses and bath aides, social workers, and the chaplain from hospice. I would like to work in this field, rather than be stuck behind a desk all the time.
I appreciate the opportunity to discuss possibilities of employment.
