A Cozy Little Cottage

5.0(1)

< 1 mi

140 W 500 S Logan, UT

A Cozy Little Cottage is a high-quality home daycare in Logan, Utah, dedicated to providing a positive, healthy environment. Our daily schedule is nurturing, stimulating, and fun! I focus on: Nature-based Outdoor Play: A connection with the natural world is crucial to a child s development. Research has shown that spending time outdoors is an important part of a child s overall physical and mental well-being. We spend a good portion of our days outside. Healthy Environment: I follow the Eco-Healthy Child Care Program guidelines to minimize exposure to lead, radon, mercury, and toxic chemicals commonly found in homes, buildings, household items and children's toys. Real Food: You will find no Lucky Charms or corn dogs here! We eat only real food, free from artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and high-fructose corn syrup. Sugar is extremely limited. Play-based Learning: I use open-ended toys and "loose parts" both inside and outside to spark a child's imagination and help them to develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills. I strive to create an environment that offers opportunity and challenge. Communication: Nonviolent Communication (NVC) skills are taught and practiced here. We use NVC skills to express our feelings and needs in a healthy way and to understand the feelings and needs of others. Limited Screen Time: I use screen time only in limited situations to support the preschool curriculum. For example, we may watch a short clip of a symphony performance during our music lesson. The Cozy Little Cottage welcomes diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race or ethnicity, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, age, disability, or marital status.

Enrollment is now open for the 2017 - 2018 school year. Classes begin September 6th and go through May 24th. All classes are mixed ages, 3 to 5 year olds. - AM Class: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 8:00 to 11:00 - PM Class: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 12:00 to 3:00 Why did I choose to call my program a "Play School" and not a "Preschool"? I believe firmly that it all begins with play. Play IS the foundation for all future academics to build upon. At Discovery Depot Play School the child is the curriculum, children will learn through play. It is that simple. The purposeful environment will spark curiosity and encourage discovery as children quickly learn they are free to explore here and use materials in whatever way they imagine. The proof of the learning will be on children, not on worksheets. Your child will get messy, they will own discoveries, they will solve problems, and they will be empowered. When young children have an opportunity to learn through child-led play, they are working through struggles, practicing solving problems, pushing, lifting and pulling heavy stuff, exploring the many ways our muscles work together, building independence and confidence, practicing self- regulation and being empowered. All of these things build the foundation that is needed for all future academics to build upon. We have become a society that has put too much emphasis on when a child writes their name, when they know their letters and when they can read. At Discovery Depot Play School, the emphasis will be on when a child can independently work through a problem, when a child can work together with others, when a child can ask for what they need, when a child can wait their turn and when a child can accept hearing "no" instead of throwing a tantrum (self-regulation). Letters, numbers, writing and other measurable academics will be tossed in throughout the play, in an organic way that children will own the discovery and have a meaningful experience to connect them to. Children will be trusted as learners; their interests will lead their play and therefore their learning. Discovery Depot Play School is a place where the learning that occurs during child-led play is honored and respected.
