WE CURRENTLY HAVE ONE (Monday-Friday full day) OPENING IN OUR PRE-K NATURE CLASSROOM. WCCC’s Early Childhood Program provides a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and a curriculum that addresses all areas of a child’s development – physical, social, emotional, and cognitive. Known for teacher longevity and high program quality, the school is located on the picturesque campus of Wellesley College. Founded in 1971, WCCC is a non-profit program run by a board of directors comprised of parents, teachers and members of the community. Our families are members of the Wellesley, Babson, and Olin College and surrounding Wellesley communities. At the Early Childhood program, we care for and teach 100 infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We believe that children learn best through active exploration and interactions with adults, other children, and materials. Children’s needs change as they grow and each room is organized to reflect these developmental differences. WCCC is well known for its caring, committed and talented professional staff and boasts a remarkably high teacher retention rate. With our emergent curriculum model, we create innovative, dynamic, safe and nurturing classroom communities. In the Nature Classroom, we recognize the importance of connecting children with nature in their daily lives. In this room, we spend at least half of our time each day outside. As research shows, the benefits of learning outdoors are enormous. According to Emily Cross, a professor in the School of Psychology, learning “where the learner is doing, moving, acting, and interacting”—can change the way the brain works and can accelerate kids’ learning process. Children who cultivate a strong connection to nature in early childhood tend to become lifelong environmentalists and stewards of the earth. The novel, challenging environments outdoors promote lots of teamwork, cooperation, and social-emotion growth. We venture outside every day, rain or shine, a classroom value that fosters self-care and resilience as we learn how to identify and dress for the weather! As part of our curriculum, we focus on cultivating awareness of the world around us through exploration, observation, inquiry, experimentation, and lots of play! On a day to day basis, you can find the Nature Room out and about the Wellesley College campus, smelling the blooms in the Arboretum, watching the ducks and turtles at paramecium pond, hiking through the North 40, or investigating the frogs and insects swimming in the Silver Thread stream.

Discovery Schoolhouse provides a warm, nurturing, supportive, educational, and enjoyable experience for children from 15 months through kindergarten, all year round, all day long. Our toddler and preschool programs run 7:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening the entire calendar year, with a variety of scheduling options available. They do not follow a school year calendar, and can children enroll at any time, all year round. Our developmental kindergarten program runs 8:00-5:00 on a school-year calendar. with 7AM drop-off and 6PM pickup options available, and enrolls children five years old in the fall or early winter, without an strict age cutoff. We always have toddler and preschool children enrolled for a variety of the available schedules, with some children attending “full time,” five days a week, 7:00 to 6:00, and other children attending only 2 or 3 days 8:00 – 3:00. Many parents send their children to Discovery Schoolhouse so that their children will have a positive social experience with other children, learn how to be friends, and learn about the world. We want Discovery Schoolhouse to be just right for every child who enrolls! We are real, old fashioned preschool!…The program uses an interactive, child-centered, developmentally appropriate approach which assumes that children learn through active participation and discovery (which is just our way of saying that we are a very “play-based” program). The curriculum emphasizes child-initiated activities, fostering independence, social skills, respecting cultural diversity, creativity, and individuality.

At Ms. Ivette's NeighborSchool children are made to feel safe and supported in everything they do. When the weather is nice we spend lots of time exploring the world around us and talking about all of the things we see in nature, like leaves, sticks and rocks. When the weather's not cooperative, we make the most of our time inside by dancing, singing, doing arts and crafts, practicing shapes, colors, letters and numbers, and reading stories. Everything children learn at this age is critical to their future success, so we make sure each child has the attention and tools they need to learn and grow, with lots of hugs and laughter along the way! I want to keep educating myself and incorporating the latest technology, lessons, and all of the new things that are coming out all the time about the development of children. I love helping the larger community within my home. I look forward to expanding my space over time and being able to teach many children over the years. We open at 7:30am and we begin the day with free play with a variety of toys. Then we clean up and wash hands and go potty before breakfast at 9am. We have a curriculum we follow to learn letters, numbers, colors, and shapes, before we go outside weather-permitting. We love to go out and be with mother nature whenever we can! After that, we come back in and wash up for snack time and prepare for circle time. We love circle time and reading stories. After that and some more free play, the children help with setting the table for lunch at noon, and help clean too. From 1 to 3pm we have nap time. For those children who don't rest, we have quiet play or we sit and chat quietly with each other. In the later afternoon we go outside once again weather-permitting and maybe go for a walk. Then we have puzzles, games, and singing until the kids have to clean up and get ready to go home for the night. It is a fun, packed day of learning and exploring for the children! There are many important aspects of Family Child Care to me. one is an engaging and development-oriented curriculum. This is enhanced by my learning of how to be a better educator. I am also incredibly attentive to healthy eating. I want to make sure the children are nurtured and that everyone is happy and smiling. I love that my program is family oriented. The children get the care and the love in a smaller group that they wouldn't necessarily be able to receive in a larger setting, yet the daycare center structure and philosophies are all still there. What is NeighborSchools? NeighborSchools helps experienced caregivers launch and operate licensed home daycares in Massachusetts. With better ratios and experienced caretakers, home daycare allows for more individualized attention for infants and toddlers. Every single day I am trying to give the children the basic foundations of life. Number one for me is good manners! From there we move to every academic piece that they must learn, like the alphabet, days of the week, to reading and writing on their own. We use phonics to teach reading and children excel at this. My favorite goal for the children is that they learn how to write the letters of their first name by the time they leave my program. Every day is new with the children, I love working with them precisely because they are so creative and full of ideas. I can lay out some supplies on a table and they turn it into a project I couldn't even foresee. I've found that they already have all of the wisdom and knowledge within them, all I do is give them some guidance and they create beautiful things! I also have a full staff at all times in the program. Safety, health, learning, and fun are incredibly important to me with the children. I bring a level of love, attention, and care that every child deserves. What is NeighborSchools?
