Our primary goals include teaching children to: Grow in understanding and appreciation of their friends Learn to listen and follow directions Enjoy creative expression through music, art, and other activities Have positive multicultural experiences and learn to embrace diverse backgrounds Develop gross motor skills along with body and space awareness Think and make choices for individual and small group activities Feel confident, secure, and loved in the school setting Establish healthy eating and hand washing habits Develop a lifelong love for learning and exploration The staff members of the CPDC share a common philosophy that children learn best when they can actively interact with their environment. We share a common commitment to helping each child develop fully physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Each child is valued as a unique individual. Children can explore the materials, solve problems, develop skills, increase knowledge, or be creative in ways that help them to solidify their abilities at one level to be ready to move on to the next. The teachers engage with the children in ways that develop strong language skills. All activities are developmentally appropriate and allow children to engage in activities at their own levels. Every child is able to develop fully according to his/her own interests and capabilities. CPDC (Child and Parent Development Center) is a part of the College of Education and Human Sciences on the Campus of Mississippi University for Women. CPDC was established in 1984 uniting the Child Development Laboratory (1937) and the Center for Infants and Parents (1974). We have a long history of quality care and education in the Columbus community. CPDC serves children of MUW students, staff, and the community.

I have lived in Columbus on my own for eight years now. I graduated with my BFA in Photography and have been working for a newspaper for five years now as a photographer. I enjoy getting out in the community and meeting new people. I love putting kids in the paper any opportunity I can! Most likely, I will put your child in if only that is okay with you of course. My job is pretty flexible so I have time to have other jobs on the side. I paint and make art to sell online with my boyfriend and we also try and find opportunities around the area to help locals out. I get along with children very well. I find they warm up to me super quick, and I keep their attention and occupied with fun, appropriate, arts, crafts, and learning activities. I have three younger brothers I had to take care of growing up and also help friends out in need with their children at home. I am responsible on and off the job I perform. I can relate to almost anyone, at any age. I am also familiar with caring for special needs children. I worked as an after school program counselor in Washington DC, caring for special needs and after-school children together in small and large groups. I'm a very good multi-tasker and know the importance of knowing my surroundings at all times. I have a brand new car that's safe and reliable if the time calls for a drive. I have had a lot of time with dogs, big and small, cats, reptiles, and birds also. I have two cats of my own, Baby and Avey, and a bearded dragon named Percy Sledge Hammer.
