About Susie

Helping students discover that they can learn - especially after they've decided they can't - is the heart of my career as a veteran, two-time National Board-Certified teacher. I specialize in reading, English language arts, science, and study skills for students in elementary through high school, with deep training in structured literacy approaches like Orton-Gillingham. My work as a reading interventionist taught me that every struggling learner is stuck somewhere specific, so I start by figuring out exactly where - then build a plan around your student's needs, strengths, and interests. Sessions are active and encouraging, small wins get celebrated, and progress is something both you and your student will be able to see and name. I keep communication with families open and jargon-free, because trust between all of us is what makes growth happen. Watching a discouraged student straighten up and say "wait, I get this" never stops being the best part of my job.
