About Jailene

I was predisposed to caretaking roles due to being the eldest child in my family so I played a role in raising my younger siblings and cousins. It was through this dynamic that I became familiar with special needs children. This personal experience made me want to work with children in my community. I started working for the senior high's pre-school when I was 15, and once I graduated high school I started tutoring junior and senior high school aged children. In college I pursued global affairs and yet my path still brought me to teaching children. I traveled to India during grad school to teach English and math to underprivileged kids. Even as I move into my J. D. studies, I still find myself wanting to work with children who have overcome diversity. Because anything related to caretaking or teaching is not one-size fits all and, I hope to make a difference for the youth. Each child is unique and needs someone who will communicate with them on their terms.
