My experience with infants and young children started when I was a senior in high school. My older sister had her first child and I was responsible for babysitting him from time to time when I was home from college. My sister then had her second child and then a third. All of a sudden; I became the favorite uncle. Watching after three children taught me a lot of patience, understanding and safety. My youngest nephew also has food allergies so I learned to prepare separate food to cater to his specific diet. I also tutored and worked as an assistant language teacher in Japan for about 2 years. This was both inside and outside of the school so my interpersonal skills with children are multicultural as well. Being a millennial, I believe that communicating with the youth is very important. I was taught to respect and honor elders when I was growing up so I look to relay the same lessons to the ones behind us. It takes a village to raise a child and communication to build a community.
