Experience: 5 yrs
In home healthcare, caregiver for one family in their home, patient had dementia and had several strokes which left her partially paralyzed. Personal end of life care, she was 89 years old and a joy to be with. I cared for this family for 3+years and remain connected with other family members. My most recent was caring for a gentleman in his 80's with Lewy Body Dementia. I provided daily companionship, prepared meals grocery shopped, managed medications, assisted with transfers, did his laundry, coordinated and managed medical appointments and worked with and coordinated outside help such as housekeeping, pool services and handyman support to ensure the house ran smoothly. My main focus was always on him and his wellbeing. I worked with this family for 1 1/2 years until his dementia took a turn for the worse and his daughter made the difficult decision to move him to her hometown in CA.
I am writing this at my own behest, not at her request. I cannot recommend Deb enough as a caregiver. The deep gratitude I have for her and the companionship she provided for my dad – there are no words to sufficiently describe my appreciation. Deb began providing companionship for my dad in August 2024. My father has Lewy Body Dementia. In addition to keeping him company, she prepared meals for him, managed his medication, did his laundry and ensured the house was in order. She took his blood pressure and assisted him with walking and sitting/standing. She booked and kept track of appointments and helped me manage all outside services (pest control, pool maintenance, house cleaners, handyman, etc.). Her main area of focus was on providing companionship to my dad. This included spending hours by his side 5 days a week, talking with him, and just keeping him engaged. She prevented him from getting lonely and kept his mind active. Not only was Deb an excellent companion and head of household, but she was also extremely trustworthy. She never did a single thing that ever caused my trust in her to waver. Having a trustworthy caregiver gave me tremendous peace of mind. My dad unfortunately took a sudden downturn recently, and is no longer able to live at home. I was devastated to have to let Deb go. Her sadness around his deterioration and knowing she wouldn’t be spending her days with him was genuine and sincere. She truly loves and cares for my dad, and for me, this is priceless. I feel so incredibly lucky to have had Deb in our lives. Any family would be fortunate to have Deb as their caregiver. I would be more than happy to speak as a reference on behalf of Deb.
