About Cleo

Experienced tutor with an undergraduate degree in English from Barnard College, pursuing an MFA in Writing at The New School. Worked for 10 years in the journalism field, including 8 years at Slate Magazine. Excels at creating a structured, positive learning environment. Worked with children and young adults of all ages over the last 10 years. I have a speciality in helping students with application essays and critical writing, but am available to tutor English, history, science, humanities, and standardized test prep. I previously worked for Thinktown Education, where I instructed high school students in China on essay writing and completed a comprehensive training in academic writing and editing. I also worked as a mentor for two summers at Barnard's Pre-College Program, living in-residence with high school students. I modeled accountability by teaching high school students workplace etiquette, and I completed training in sensitivity and mediation.
