Experience: 10 yrs
I am a child carer, teacher, hiker, musician, adventurer, wanna-be visual artist, avid reader, and yogi. Before returning to VT in Jan., I worked for 1 year as a nanny for a family in Cambridge, England, while pursuing an MA degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics. Previous experience includes 11 years of teaching music in the public schools in VT (all ages). I absolutely love working with kids and know how important it is to find quality childcare. I am currently working for 2 families in the Burlington area (ages 2-9) and will be working as a 1-to-1 with one of the kiddos this summer during her day camp to help support her special needs. I am interested in finding a new opportunity for the Fall, ideally within the hours of ~8am-2 p.m. so I can continue with one of my current families doing after-school care. Additional references provided upon request. I have completed recent background checks to maintain my AOE license and employment with the EJRP summer camp.
Catherine worked for us for just under a year before returning to the states and we absolutely loved her. I have a nine year old and a four year old and I think that she was one of the best nannies we have ever had over the years. The highlights include: She was always reliable and punctual and very rarely sick. She built a lovely rapport with my children with just the right balance of fun and discipline. My four year old (and even the nine year old at times) can be challenging on occasion but Catherine was more than able to handle it without needing to escalate. She was creative and imaginative, planning interesting things to do which were brilliant in the school holidays. She is so musical and I think she really helped my oldest to get from very simple piano playing to the point that she actually enjoys it and will sit down and play voluntarily. It was fun listening to all the singing and laughter (and amazing flute playing). She would make sure that she checked in on anything she wasn't sure about/if she had any questions about the routine/concerns which I found very valuable/refreshing. She was also really flexible, helping us out when one of the girls was sick or if we just needed an additional pair of hands.
