About Caruxa

Catuxa was our babysitter for a full year, when her college schedule became too full. Because she has worked as a teacher for years, and our children trust her, we kept her on as a Spanish and pre-algebra tutor. She has a gift for teaching. She is steady, firm and kind, and gives the children the push they need when they need it, as well as the space to try and fail without judgment. She will patiently wait through protests and arguing that that's not what the teacher said, only to watch the children discover what was intended by the teacher's comments and what the directions actually mean. She goes the distance to craft her own custom worksheets, with the awareness of what specific skills need extra practice, versus just making the kids do busywork. The children know she believes in them and they have gained confidence in their own problem solving skills as a result of the time spent with her just once a week. Amazing.
