I love children and would love to be a part of your family. From Feb - Jun 2014, I took care of an 8-year-old girl after school three days a week. From July 2014 - Jul 2017, I cared for another 8-year-old girl; she is 11 now. Took her swimming 3 days a week, violin lessons, and shopping. She will be attending school in McLean in the Fall. I am one of eight children; six girls and two boys. My mother had two sets of twins; the last set are 12 years younger so I took care of them daily. My husband and I raised two lovely young ladies here in Ashburn and we have three beautiful granddaughters (4, 2 and 8 mos.) whom I watch every morning. I believe in reading to a baby and playing music. Their little minds are so open to possibilities at this age. I also love to exercise. I like children to play outside if weather permits. I am dog-friendly and have taken a course in CPR and First Aid.

Our family highly recommends Sandy. She provided full time care for our newborn premature son for over 6 months. She started helping us right after his due date. She is very gentle, trustworthy, patient, and dependable. She has been a calming energy in our home when we needed it the most. We're so sad we are moving out of state, we wish we could bring Sandy with us! Our son (now 8 months old) loves her so much and lights up every morning when she arrives. Our whole family will miss her greatly, even our cats. Any family would be incredibly lucky to have Sandy's care!

Experienced Tutor/Private Lesson Tutor

I am an experienced, highly qualified teacher in special and elementary education. I have had all successful experiences working one-on-one to teach, review, and reinforce skills in all subject areas in pre-k, kindergarten and grads 1 to 7. I am patient and kind and can keep a student focused for each lesson by breaking down concepts using time frames to maintain attention. I can tutor within 10 to 15 miles. As your tutor, I promise to make our sessions as engaging, lively and meaningful as possible. That's the promise I made to all my students when I was a teacher and to the students and teachers who use the resources I've developed over the years for Special Education. Sure, I'll help you with your homework if that's what you need. In the process, you will become a more independent learner who is excited about exploring new ideas, applying new skills and finding hidden talents. If your schoolwork is mostly about reading textbooks and taking tests, I can help you handle that by showing you how to breathe life into that work. I can help you with big projects like reports, essays and presentations. We'll work together to find approaches that work for you and impress your teachers with your knowledge and creativity. Maybe you're a budding poet or short story writer. I would love to be your writing coach. And that big, fat novel that your American Literature teacher just assigned? We can get through that together. I look forward to meeting you!

Caring Big Sister Turned Sitter :)

Thank you for your interest! I've actually already found a position for this summer (my account is set to pause soon). Good luck with your further search! . . . As the second oldest of 10 children, I've been taking care of kids for as long as I can remember! Outside of family, I've had lots of experience regularly babysitting for families in our neighborhood and church group. I've also led a book club for about 25 elementary school children, taught children's piano and voice lessons, and led a group of about 60 high school students in daily extracurricular practice (as the drum major of our marching band). These experiences have helped me learn how to balance the roles of a rule enforcer (when the need arises), but also an encouraging teacher and most importantly, a caring friend. While caring for kids is definitely not for the faint of heart or mind, your little angels are ALWAYS worth that extra patience and love! :)

Katelyn is very organized and is proactive in planning activities to keep children engaged. She is fun and kind, and I appreciate how she treats kids. She doesn't talk down to them and is not patronizing, but engages them respectfully. As an older child in a large family, she has a wealth of experience interacting with and caring for children of all ages. While she is great with children, I also appreciate her maturity communicating with adults. She has always stood out among her peers as she is able to make eye contact and hold conversations. She doesn't get sucked into a phone and is totally present when she is around. I have no hesitations in giving her a five star review, you won't find a better candidate!
