About who needs care: My mom has Parkinson's and has mild dementia. She is still highly functional but sometimes has trouble expressing herself verbally. Id like someone to check in on her a few times a week, and help her with errands and visit with her a little so she doesnt feel isolated when I cant be with her. She has a housekeeper, but help with any chores or tasks she needs help with would also be appreciated. She loves children, animals and tv. She loves sewing, key lime pie and playing cards, although she sometimes gets confused while playing. She is generally good natured about the difficulties she is having, and I find that laughing about it with her seems to help diffuse her anxiety.
About the care needs: I think a caregiver with a good attitude and lots of patience is what is needed for my mom. Her caregiver would ideally be a good listener who can talk with her about sewing, or help with a sewing project, who loves animals and can especially talk about that with her, and who can help her stay independent as long as possible is what is needed. She is still quite spry despite the Parkinsons, but she tires easily and sometimes has a bad day, so sensitivity about her situation is a must. Previous experience with seniors with memory issues and motor skills issues is important as well.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
