About who needs care: My grandmother is a kind and gentle woman who will soon be coming home from a rehabilitation facility to live with us in Mineral, VA. She is mostly mentally alert and usually oriented to time and place, though she sometimes forgets things like names and needs gentle reminders for daily tasks. She has limited mobility; on good days she can stand and take short steps with a walker, but on harder days she needs hands-on help getting in and out of bed or transferring to a chair. Because she is incontinent, maintaining hygiene is especially important to keep her comfortable and prevent infection. Her ideal day is calm and structured, with help getting cleaned up in the morning (and changing sheets if she has had an accident), meals at regular times, light activity or simple physical exercises to stay mobile, and rest periods throughout the day. We are looking for someone patient and experienced who can assist with bathing and hygiene every day or every other day and gently encourage her to stay active. She is very agreeable and easy to get along with. She enjoys watching HGTV and Hallmark movies, and can sometimes be persuaded to do a Word Search puzzle. Before moving in with us, most of her socializing was through her church, and she appreciates when people pray with her if they are comfortable doing so. About the care needs: Were looking for someone patient, kind, and dependable who can help my grandmother feel comfortable and dignified during personal care. Experience with seniors who have limited mobility or incontinence is important, along with a gentle approach that encourages her to stay active. She enjoys friendly conversation and would love a caregiver who appreciates calm company, Hallmark movies, or faith-based chats. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
