About who needs care: William is 93 years old. He's exhibiting signs of dementia like accusing his son of trying to steal his wife (son's mom) by taking her to a prom. Mom is deceased and son is 60 so William's accusation isn't based in reality. William does do the crossword puzzle every day so his thinking/memory is spotty in some area but largely fine in other areas. William is now in diapers in case of accidents. Mostly he makes it to bathroom. Occasionally, he have accidents. Last week, he had diarrhea in diaper and needed cleaning up. As son removed diaper, William tried to get up and go to bed. Son had to explain and guide Dad to shower for cleaning up before getting in bed. Son usually helps William shower. It's a walk in shower with a seat. William sits in shower and Son helps him wash via hand nozzle. William can be cantankerous at times. Other times, he's completely fine and focused on crossword or other tasks. William doesn't need to be feed (like spoon fed) but he doesn't need reminders and food brought to him. He would not able to go to kitchen and make his own meal. Ideal day - caregiver comes to apt for 8 hour shift. 5 hrs would be just sitting in same room or next room in case anything is needed. During other 3 hrs, caregiver would (1) help William shower, dry off, get dressed again (2) feed him one or two meals during 8 hr shift. Care giver isn't expected to cook - more like microwave something from fridge or put sandwich on plate and get William seated at table to eat it. Services needed include: feeding, and bathing / dressing.
