The daughter of Atlanta jazz legends Bob and Phyllis, Tia began recording commercials and soundtracks at age 13. She traveled west to earn her degree and train at Brigham Young University with world-renowned tenors Ray Arbizu and Terry McCombs, then sang her way through Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany. Despite her classical music education, Tia’s passion has always been jazz. She’s sung at Birdland and sat in with some of the greats, including Detroit, MI pianist Johnny O’Neal; NYC, NY bassist Steve Doyle; and Teaneck, NJ guitarist Russell Malone. ? You can catch her performing live at the numerous jazz venues around Atlanta such as the Velvet Note, Churchill Grounds At Mason Tavern, Venkman's, Apres Diem, and Red Light Cafe. World class jazz trumpeter, Art Hoyle, featured soloist with Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Quincy Jones and Henry Mancini said of Tia “that this is the voice of the female Chet Baker.” Formal Education: I received an Associate's Degree in Church Music from Brigham Young University. Private Education: I have studied vocal jazz privately with Audrey Shakir and Sachal Vasandani. Performing Experience: I have sung professionally since the age of 13. I have recording experience for commercials and musical soundtracks. I have performed locally at Churchill Grounds, Cafe 290, Sweet Georgia Juke Joint, Velvet Note, Apres Diem, Mason Tavern, and many other venues. Experience Teaching: I taught as the teaching assistant for Terrance McCombs for several years at Brigham Young University. I am 19 years old, and currently am living in Tucker GA. I have a tremendous passion for performing drums and other percussion instruments and am currently getting my bachelor's degree at Georgia State University. Formal Education: I received my high school diploma at Locust Grove high school and am currently enrolled at Georgia State as a music education major. Private Education: I have had many private instructors over the years, but my most influential teacher would have to be Mr. Tim Griffiths. Aside from being my high school percussion instructor, Mr. Griffiths offered to prepare my senior year for Allstate auditions and other various college band auditions. Performing Experience: I have been performing in middle school and high school band from 2009 to 2016 involved in marching, symphonic and jazz bands. Also, I have played with some friends during that time period during jam sessions and weeklys gigs. Currently I am apart of the GPC wind ensemble and GPC percussion ensemble, as well as playing drums and songwriting for my current rock band. Experience Teaching: I have had no experience teaching music, but I have had leadership roles over the years in various band activities. I have also been told that I am really good with kids, which is great because I love kids. Also, I have been raised by two teachers so I know first hand how to approach and get on the same level as a student.
