Visit the site of the Old French Opera House and stroll through the Tango Belt and May Bailey’s before arriving at the Treme section.  Stroll through the Tango Belt to the New Orleans Musicians Tomb in St. Louis Cemetery #1, the use of which was donated by the musical dynasty Barbarin Family for free burial to musicians.  From the cemetery you will check out the remains of Storyville (including Frank Early’s Saloon where “Pretty Baby” was written),  turn-of-the-century red light district whose parlors presented King Oliver, Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet and more during the time when jazz was born.  From Storyville,  venture into Louis Armstrong Park, Congo Square, the only place in North American where pure West African religious ritual and musical traditions were performed.

The tour begins with a ride through the Bywater and Marigny neighborhoods, home to history, art, and delightful shotgun houses. Your licensed tour guide will take you up Esplanade Ave, once known as “Creole Millionaires Row”. We’ll ride the oak lined avenue and marvel at the architecture, passing by Faubourg Treme and into Faubourg St. John. After a leisurely pedal through City Park, we’ll stop for a well-deserved break. Riders will have the opportunity to purchase beignets and café au lait at Cafe Du Monde. We then follow the trail of one of the oldest roads in the US - Bayou Road, the very reason New Orleans exists. Lastly we’ll pedal our way back through the historic French Quarter and the Marigny, admiring the sights along the way. Take off from New Orleans Lakefront Airport and head on over the city of New Orleans, where you will get an up-close view of the French Quarter, St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, and Bourbon Street. Beyond that you'll get a bird's eye view of the greater New Orleans area and see our magnificent surroundings from above. After flying over the French Quarter you will head back to Lakefront Airport, getting views from a distance of New Orleans City Park, the Fairgrounds, Dillard University and the Causeway Bridge.

Take your time enjoying the Oak Alley tour and exploring the Big House, grounds, slave cabins, exhibits, and café. Tour leaves from the Doubletree Hotel in the French Quarter. Please allow 30 minutes for pick-up. Tour is approximately 8 hours long (drive included). Daily pickup starting at 9:30AM. Dress for the weather! We recommend cool, comfortable clothing. The Mardi Gras School of Cooking does small, intimate hands-on classes in the French Quarter. Classes are more like a dinner party with friends. Feel welcomed into our kitchens by the Chefs themselves. From the moment you arrive until you roll out the door our Chefs are friendly, personable and entertaining. Group size is a maximum of 4,5 people to keep this experience as personal as possible, if your booking is for less than 4,5 people you will be paired with other people to share this experience (you will still get your photos severely, not as a group).We will be covering as much spots as possible from the locations mentioned in the list (depending on how fast all the group will be moving).

As a child going to Audubon Montessori I rode the Saint Charles street car everyday and later went to Loyola University during Katrina.
