Years of Experience: 15 Location Options: In Webcam Travel Radius: 20 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic, Christian, RB, Gospel, Pop Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Bass Guitar Lessons Overview: I have an Associates with a Field of Study in Music. I can (and love to) play rock, jazz and classical. I've played with big bands and jazz combos. I've also played in many rock bands. I am proficient in reading standard notation for both guitar and piano. I can read and write chord charts and diagrams. I know guitar scales and modes. I am fluent in many technical skills including tremolo picking, alternate picking, and classical finger picking. I have played in a variety of settings and contexts. From hotel lobbies to clubs to large auditoriums. Guitar and music is my life, and I love teaching people and getting to know them as they progress through their musical journey! Private Education: Gerald Blakeman-Classical/Jazz/Theory Performing Experience: Performing and recording since 2006 Experience Teaching: Teaching privately since 2014 -Education- Degree: AA with FOS in Music School: LSC Tomball -Reviews- Name: Gerald Blakeman Date: 2017-02-22 05:45:10 Title: Gerald Blakeman B.M. Body: I have taught Tom for approximately four years. He has studied classical and jazz and has a good touch for classical guitar, as well as a good understanding of jazz. I would recommend him for teaching in your organization. Name: Christy Lockhart Date: 2017-02-22 21:08:21 Title: Tom S., guitar Body: Having known Tom for 18 years, I know he is passionate about his instrument. He is excited by music, all the different genres, and the ways to play and interpret these styles on guitar. Tom began playing guitar for the same reason most middle schoolers do - to play rock and roll. When he went to Lone Star College to study with Gerald Blakeman, I saw his music world expand. Mr. Blakeman is not only a great guitar player but also a master teacher. Tom inhaled whatever Gerald put in front of him. Tom played in the jazz ensemble and studied difficult classical repertoire with Mr. Blakeman. I have also seen Tom interact with young students. He can be friendly yet discerning in his approach to the child. I believe Tom has the potential to become a master teacher himself. After forty years as a flute teacher, I know it is important to know everything about your instrument; however, a teacher must keep the student engaged during the lesson and that is sometimes the hardest part of the job. Tom has the knowledge, the energy and the personality to be a successful private lesson teacher.
