Ms. Kashi has been watching my infant son for 3 months now. She is fantastic! My son is always happy at drop off and pick up. Ms. Kashi has done a fantastic job of keeping us posted on his developments and daily activities. You can tell she cares about the children more than the job. There is no better option in my opinion!

Paddington Daycare is the DREAM daycare. Our son started going to Paddington Daycare at ten months (his first time away from home care!) and has been there for just under a year. We couldn't have hoped for a better daycare for him. Vanessa, Michael, and Erika treat him as if he were their own, and often when we go to pick him up, he doesn't want to leave! Not only do they shower the children with such love, kindness, and care but also they make sure that each child is engaged in developmentally-appropriate activities that help them learn and grow. Each week has a theme, and our son comes home at the end of the week with lots of artwork both related to the theme as well as related to numbers and the alphabet. We are amazed at the creativity with which Vanessa, Erika, and Michael design the activities and educate the children. In addition, they keep detailed daily reports for each child that identify what they ate and how much, when and how long they napped (they are miracle workers with the naps!), when they were changed, and what activities that they engaged in. We are moving out of state, and we're devastated that we can't take Paddington Daycare with us! In conclusion, we couldn't recommend Paddington Daycare more highly. With our son being our first child, we didn't know what to expect putting him into daycare, but now Paddington Daycare has set an impossibly high bar for any to follow. Thank you, Vanessa, Erika, and Michael for everything that you do!!

Our daughter has been in Nargis's and Bublee's care for over three years. Just a couple of days before I was returning to work after our first daughter's birth, our nanny quit unexpectedly. I hadn't planned to put her at SmartStart daycare (as matter of fact, we had looked at it when our daughter was weeks old but decided to go with a nanny share.) Obviously that is where she was "supposed" to be. That change in events was perhaps one of the best blessings that our family has ever had. I could not have expected such loving, caring, dependable- and flexible!- care for our daughter. Nargis and Bublee are like family to us and I'm so incredibly grateful that our daughter had such an amazing place to spend her days. We are moving to MD, but had planned to have our two-month old start when our toddler transitioned to preschool. I'm heart broken that our second won't get the experience with Smart Start, but I am also grateful that another family will get to experience how truly wonderful these ladies are! If you have a chance to get a spot, DON'T HESITATE! You will NOT find more amazing care for your precious little ones!

Welcome to the Family Day Home "The Kingdom of Children LLC."

My name is Maria and I am a state licensed childcare provider in the commonwealth of Virginia. I can tell you that I'm not only the director and provider of my Family Day home, but also I have a lot of professional experience in early child education that is backed up by a bachelor's degree and more than 19 years of working, first as a director in my own school and then as a director of a Daycare of Essalud in Peru.
I love my profession, and that is the only way for a person to think of dedicating their life to taking care of children and planning on doing an excellent job. Everyday I try to give my best and all of my knowledge at my job, and I am always updating my knowledge so that I can achieve with your children a great emotional, intellectual and psychomotor development.
The curricula I use allows me to develop every skill they must have depending on their age, including the learning of Spanish as a second language.
Something more about me is that I am a member of NAAEYC and I have a free food program for your children that consists of healthy food that follows the USDA Child Care Food Program.
In this Family Day Home we cultivate integrity and good morals so that they can grow up as tolerant, punctual, responsible and sympathetic people.

The Butterfly House's Photo

The Butterfly House

3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA

Starting at $1800/mo

Our History
Established at Virginia Theological Seminary in 1986, The Butterfly House Preschool (TBH) is a licensed childcare facility in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Our Program
At The Butterfly House (ages 2 to 6 years) and The Caterpillar Club (ages 6 weeks to 24 months), children interact daily, not only with children their own age, but with older and younger children. A diverse, mixed-age grouping gives every child an opportunity to successfully interact and allows for a gradual transition from one age group to another, thus minimizing anxiety by maintaining caregiver consistency.

Each week, we expose children to language, math, media, geography, science, and social studies, as well as opportunities to participate in drama, music, art, and physical education activities.

We operate our program both indoors and outdoors, as outdoor play is essential to healthy physical and mental development. Children spend a minimum of two hours outdoors every day except for in inclement weather.

The Butterfly House and Caterpillar Club (children under the age of 2) provide a healthy, safe, positive, and nurturing environment for all children. We optimize opportunities for each individual child's growth in these developmental areas:

- Social-Emotional
- Cognitive
- Linguistic
- Physical
- Creative

We encourage diversity in all aspects of our program, invite family participation, and foster positive community relationships.

Our Philosophy
We integrate emergent, child-centered, and play-based curricula, the theories of Loris Malaguzzi, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Howard Gardner, and Arnold Gesell into a holistic approach to early childhood education. Based on these principles, we offer children a path to self-expression, communication, logical thinking, and problem-solving.

Our Teachers
We employ and train educators who understand children's developmental stages and are committed to providing experiences that encourage optimal learning. Our continuing education allows all staff to meet state licensing requirements, as well as better assisting you and your child's daily needs.

Fantastic place for your children. We have had our children in a couple of daycares over the years. Butterfly House is by far the best. The teachers are creative and have energy from the start of the day until the end of the day. The school is located on the campus of the Seminary, which provides beautiful outdoor space for the kids.
