After 25+ years in practice as a counselor and psychotherapist I retired and took care of my grandchildren. As they've grown I miss being involved with young children. I am particularly suited for in home care of small children because my age has made me patient and in tune with their attention to the moment. I have years of experience in motivation, the most recent research on what works with children at different stages of brain development and have a need to put this knowledge to use in the most rewarding way: one on one with a developing child.
I drive a Volvo with 2 car seats ready to pick up at preschool or calm a crying baby. I don't depend on this income to live. I don't currently have any responsibilities that require my attention so you can count on me.
Qualifications include:
I have been background checked on multiple occasions in connection with work. I passed on a current check only because I'm unsure how current checks are required but am open to having another at any time. While I'm not specifically certified in Early Childhood Special Education, etc. I worked as a liscensed psychologist for 30 years, the last few years part time and with decreasing involvement as I took care of my husband following his head injury. I have training in appropriate developmental milestones for children of all ages, for the most effective ways to communicate and have become poignantky aware if the power of the words we use, for the neuroplasticity of the developing brain, the unique individuality of each child's modes of learning and expression. Mostly, I know how to have fun with children and the child in most adults. In addition I can offer feedback like seen in Super Nanny, if so desired. I respect the rights of parents and children, understand boundaries and will be open to feedback from each parent.
