The employees at Alderwood all seemed cheerful and helpful when I went for the first time to visit my husband. He was badly injured in an accident, and after 10 days at Harborview Trauma Center, he was transported to Alderwood for 6 weeks of OT and PT. In order to heal properly, after having crushed his pelvis, he needed good nutrition. The food served at Alderwood was appallingly poor. Then there was a catheter which should have been removed after about one week at Alderwood. Setting up an appointment with a urologist in Bellingham should have been a priority for my husband. So, the catheter stayed in for 6 weeks. I took him back to Harborview when he was discharged from Alderwood. The x-fix for his pelvis was removed, but still has to be in a wheelchair for 6 more weeks. Have to wonder if he'd had a decent diet, would that have been necessary? The urologist at Harborview also did remove the catheter. We returned home, and for the next few days my husband got sicker and sicker. He had developed a urinary infection, which turned into urinary sepsis. He had to be flown back to Harborview. And, fortunately, they got him on the right meds soon enough to turn things around. What a nightmare it was for my husband, and for me, as well. I consider the way they blew off getting him to a Urologist to be negligent. I pray I never have to see my husband in such agony ever again. And, I also pray that neither of us ever needs to set foot in another facility like Alderwood.
