I'm an experienced respiratory therapist and currently enrolled in a physician assistant program. My program requires one year of not being enrolled in courses so I have one full year off. Although my career path is medical, I grew up with many animals, and have had years of experience as a nanny, babysitter, and house sitter. It would be a real treat for me to spend this year helping a family with animals or children because I get such enjoyment from both.
My family and I boarded and trained horses and ALWAYS had a family dog, if not a few family dogs at one time. My experience and absolute love for animals would make me a great care giver to dogs and other animals. I sincerely enjoy positive reinforcement training and discovering what motivates each animal to learn. Dogs are my first love however, I earned horse training and horse shoeing certifications through Oklahoma horse shoeing school and worked with horses professionally for supplemental income during my early years of college.
I started babysitting when I was 14. I always would get so excited when parents would ask me to babysit. It started with watching children for families at my church and signing up for nursery duty as much as my church would allow me to! There was some thing special about being trusted with children. By the time I was 16, I was regularly babysitting for one family in particular. They had one colicky infant and one 2-year-old toddler. I ran errands for their mom, cleaned the house while I was there, and took care of the dog. When the infant was a littler older, I took them to the zoo, chuckie cheese, museums, farms, and different parks. I'm not sure who had more fun, them or me! Then during one summer break from college I was a nanny to a precious young down syndrome child. That was so much fun! I didn't let the Down syndrome stop up from doing anything. It's important to me to see kids active and learning. We went to bounce magic, played mini golf, and took other field trips. That summer was a blast for me.
For older children, I would love to venture into being a tutor for various subjects. I have never been a tutor before but I have certainly had my fair share of academic work and finding countless creative ways to learn some very difficult curriculum.
