Part-time Special Needs Provider
My younger sister Courtney was born with cerebral palsy (mild) and Noonan's syndrome. She has been through a lot over her 19 years. Growing up, I would attend Courtney's doctors, speech, OT, and PT appointments and got to see, at a young age, children with special needs. These experiences have broaden my horizons and made me more self-aware and accepting of anyone who is "different." At the age of 14, I started volunteering at the adaptive ski school that my sister also attended. I have volunteered there since 2010 and have learned so much about children with autism, CP, cognitive delays, and much more. I also had experience in an aquatic therapy setting for children. I have shadowed/volunteered/worked in numerous physical therapy settings over the years: brain & spinal injuries, general outpatient orthopedic (I have worked in this setting for almost 2 years as a rehab aide and have helped treat pts with MS, CP, general orthopedic issues, and mental health problems).
