Part-Time Nanny/Mother's Helper
For the last 10 years I have been working with families doing childcare for a variety of ages, from newborns to young children, adolescents, and even premature twins. I have also happily done pet care, house sitting, errands (shopping, mailing things, etc.), light housework, laundry, homework help, and driving. I have had other jobs but nothing has been as rewarding as helping a child grow and learn. Even after I got my Associates I couldn't imagine not being a nanny because I love my career.
It takes a village to raise a family and I enjoy being part of that. So as a nanny, my job is to be an extension of the parents, making sure their parenting ideals and philosophies are executed exactly, or as close to, how the parents themselves would execute them. Through the years, I have learned that no style is "best" and each child needs different parenting, but every child needs understanding, gentle speech, and affection. My biggest talent is turning everything I do with children/babies as something fun with silly songs and constant play, for example having a special diaper changing song per child, making funny faces while cleaning up, or reading stories as animated as possible.
The experience I have gained makes me a quick reference tool for new parents, along with reassurance for second and even sixth-time parents.
Allowing a nanny to care for your child means allowing someone into your life, so I happily reciprocate by being open with my life.
I moved to Texas in July 2012 from California. My husband is a full-time student and I am going back in January to get my BA in Education.
I have been with my current family for five years now. In January, the youngest is headed to preschool so I won't be needed full time anymore. I am happy that, even though I am leaving, they have made me feel like an ongoing member of their family so I know I will continue to see them. I would like to have a job that starts in January but if given enough time to I can start sooner.
I have a four-door car that is only 3-4 years old and am happily willing to drive the children in it. Crumbs and spilled juice are no big deal as it's just stuff.
As a nanny I tend to sing a narration of what I am doing. I smile and laugh all of the time too because even when you have a bad day, there are always reasons to be happy.
