About who needs care: My father has weakness in his legs due to back and hip pain. He has difficulty walking and standing and transferring from the couch to a wheelchair.
My father retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Air Force and as a Captain from TWA. He loved to fish and enjoyed his motorcycle when he had it.
He used to spend a lot of time on the computer, however, after breakfast he usually will lie down on the couch on an ice pack and take a nap. If it is a good day, he will then get up and go to the computer, otherwise, he will spend it napping on the couch.
My mom is in McCrite at Briarcliff's Memory Care, and we are visiting her almost every afternoon.
He enjoys having a vodka martini and snacks (nuts, chips, cheese) at 5:00 prior to dinner. while watching the local and national news. After dinner he is ready to go to bed around 8:00.
About the care needs: Someone with a good sense of humor. My dad is 6'2 and 180 lbs, so they need to be able to assist him in transfers to/from a chair or couch to wheelchair. If he is having a bad day, they may need to assist him in undressing at night. If they have knowledge of airplanes, fishing, current events, etc. that would give my dad someone to talk to.
Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and mobility assistance.
