Montessori
Preschool
At LTM we believe in the “whole child” approach. The primary goal of our Montessori program is to help each child reach their full potential in all areas of life. Activities promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation. The holistic curriculum, under the direction of specially prepared teachers, allows the child to experience the joy of learning, time to enjoy the process and insure the development of self-esteem, and provides the experiences from which children create their knowledge. Music, art, storytelling, movement and drama are an integral part of our curriculum as well as other things particular to the Montessori environment that encourage creative development: many materials that stimulate interest and involvement; an emphasis on the sensory aspect of experience; and the opportunity for both verbal and nonverbal modes of learning. The staff at LTM respects each child’s learning style and academic, emotional and physical needs. Each child has the opportunity to work at an individual pace, to explore personal interests, while at the same time, develop skills in how to collaborate, learn from, and teach others. By observing the children in the prepared environment, we can see that we are successful when we see a confident student, ready to explore, creatively problem solve and express concern and empathy for others.

At the BMCC Early Childhood Center, we view our early childhood classrooms as a microcosm of a learning community. Our children are viewed as members of a peer group. As we begin to think about ‘learning through play’, the emergent curriculum is part of the early childhood methodology we utilize to foster learning in children. Our curriculum is diverse from classroom to classroom, from age group to age group, yet planned to reflect the center's philosophy and goals for children. Our goals are as follows; activities with children aim to be child-directed, teachers assist in the facilitation of learning, we construct classrooms as a means for learning, and teachers of young children set up the classroom environment to allow children to explore, to question, to work independently, within a group or with an adult. Within our learning community, we use remnants of emergent curriculum, Creative Curriculum, Jean Piaget’s philosophy, the eight stages of Erick Erickson’s approach to learning, Howard Gardener’s concept of multiple intelligences, and supportive elements of the Reggio Emilia approach. Our objective is to create critical thinking in young children. This is done by; forming healthy attachments to adults, developing a positive self-image, developing the ‘whole child’, and supporting the idea of continuous growth through an enriched curriculum. Family Involvement Encouraged To further support children’s growth and development in the classroom, we encourage family involvement. Family involvement includes maintaining the conceptual approach to children’s learning as parents serving as primary teachers of their children. To further support these concepts we attempt to build a partnership between student parents, teachers, administration, and community. Our vision is to prepare respectful, responsible, caring, skilled, and literate lifelong learners through a stimulating, integrated curriculum that nurtures individual strengths, and talents in a safe environment. The environmental setup includes many diverse cultures, languages, and themes. Utilizing our integrated model, learning occurs by continually building upon new experiences to further enhance the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, fine, and gross motor development of children. Early Childhood classrooms comprise experiences similar to a child’s home environment to support a positive, supportive, and enriched environment. Children are encouraged to take the lead, explore their environment; establish a routine, and understand transitions. The environment is rich in diverse cultures; and promotes a strong emphasis on literacy, math, science, arts, music, and movement. Learning Through Play Play is a tool for learning. Learning through play helps formulate healthy experiences for children, and healthy relationships with adults, and before long parents will observe their child; once engaged only in parallel play begin to socialize, share, and build upon small concepts, and experiences learned in school yet similar to home. The Early Childhood classroom and exploration of learning centers in the classroom encourage; Fine Motor Development: used to increase small muscle development. This may include manipulating puzzles, drawing, coloring, painting, beading, and manipulating print materials. Cognitive Development: used in our interactive learning environment. This includes engagement with peers, adults, materials, and activities. Physical Development: used in our interactive environment. This may include running, jumping, climbing, catching and ball playing, and structured outdoor time. Social Development: used to promote active learning experiences. This will be done by the use of many dramatic play experiences such as pretend play and role playing. Mathematical Skills and Critical Thinking: used to increase all developmental areas. This may include phonological awareness, vocabulary knowledge, problem-solving, creative planning, number concepts, and peer interactions. Emotional: used to increase positive self-concepts. This may include the importance of human relationships such as peer interactions and adult/child interactions. This also includes peer negotiations, the ability to make choices, and how to interact with others properly. Family Involvement: used to increase the educational ability of individual children. Parents are welcome to our open-door policy and encouraged to participate in many child-centered activities. They are also encouraged to participate in program planning such as field trips and holiday decorating. Community Development: Community development is used to educate the parents on activities they can access within the community upon the re-acclimatization into society. This includes childcare referrals, free activities within the city, medical services available, and additional support services they may be able to use upon transition into their apartments. Local trips to the fire departments, police stations, grocery stores, and pet shops are also part of our program. By focusing on the whole child and providing stimulating experiences, the BMCC Early Childhood Center helps children develop advanced learning skills.

Se habla espanol! Dear Parents, Welcome to My First Steps Child Care. The mission of My First Steps Child Care is to provide a high quality, well-rounded environment in which children of all ages and developmental stages can thrive. Myself, along with my two assistants, provide daylong care for children whose ages range from 6 weeks to 12 years. We have created a bi-lingual immersion program, in which we teach children both English and Spanish, and speak both equally throughout the day. We pride ourselves in providing the best care and curriculum possible for each child, preparing weekly, age- appropriate lesson plans, which prepare children for the next step in their education. Trips and/or projects are sometimes scheduled at the end of a unit to provide real-world applications of the knowledge they have acquired. Our childcare setting is equipped with age-appropriate materials, varying from puzzles and books to manipulative and dramatic play toys to aid in your child's development. Story time, circle time, and arts and crafts activities are scheduled throughout the week to provide a well-rounded education and reinforce your child's learning. In addition to academic enhancement, your child will take advantage of an encouraging, socially nurturing atmosphere, where they can feel free to interact with children of varying age groups. Together, children can learn from each other and acquire basic social skills that will aid them throughout their academic careers, and later on in life. We arrange our area to provide a safe and interactive environment for children of varying age groups. School-aged children can take advantage of our stellar academic environment as well. We provide academic enrichment and homework help in our after-school program. Students are also eligible for full-day care during the summer and on days schools are closed. We provide three balanced meals per day according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program. We cater to children's specific dietary requirements. About Our Daycare Welcome to Chinenye Daycare! At Chinenye Daycare, we pride ourselves in being very loving, kind, gentle, and understanding childcare professionals who are easy to talk to, intelligent, efficient, open to new ideas, and above all, strive to improve the current and future well-being of the children we care for. We have many educational resources, based on the age of the children. We offer story time, learning colors, numbers, shapes, alphabets, reading books to infants, and so much more. One of our primary objectives is to provide a nurturing, fun environment for the daycare children. To accomplish this, we have child-sized furniture, nap cots, toys, books, games, craft materials, puzzles, and outdoor play equipment which will help children remain stimulated while in our care. The children also have climbing and other equipment inside a fenced backyard, where they are always supervised by our staff. In addition, we have materials and tools for early learning such as those that help children learn the alphabet and how to count. Social skills are also an important aspect of our daycare program. A child needs to learn how to engage with other children as well as with adults, and we consistently provide these opportunities. An additional service we offer is picking up your older child from a nearby school and helping them with their homework while they are in our care. We have computers which are accessible to all the children in the daycare, especially the children in the “afterschool care” program. Because we believe consistency is key, we have created schedules for daily activities, meal times, diaper changing times, nap times and more. We have an open door policy, which means the parents can stop by without notification, and call or text anytime they want and we will respond. We strive to be your partner and always give our parents peace of mind. We are completely transparent in our program and curriculum. We make ourselves available to discuss any questions or concerns our parents may have. We continuously self-assess and look to improve and make communication with the parents a paramount part of the childcare environment. We are committed to giving your children quality care. We make sure that the children in our daycare, grow physically, socially, emotionally, academically and otherwise.

Lovie S. says "She amazing with my child. My son has been going for 2 1/2 years and he LOVES going! "
