About Sophia

I have taught across multiple grade levels and subjects, including 9th-grade English at a Title I high school, 5th-grade English and writing, and 10th-grade World History with a focus on literacy. In 9th grade, I worked with students who often entered with reading gaps, so I emphasized scaffolding strategies, close reading, and writing as a process, while also encouraging their creativity and voice. In 5th grade, I built strong foundations in grammar, sentence fluency, and essay structure, using collaboration and community-building to help students take risks as readers and writers. Currently, I teach 10th-grade World History through a literacy-rich lens, where students analyze primary and secondary sources, practice ACT-style reading skills, and write evidence-based arguments. Across all roles, I've focused on high expectations, meaningful support, and helping students build confidence as learners and thinkers.
