Hi, my name is Siobhan (Shivahn). I started working with special needs children in 2008 as an overnight counselor at different summer camps for children with Spina Bifida, Kidney Disease, and Epilepsy. I also worked as a certified personal caregiver throughout college providing in-home care for the elderly. I absolutely loved the companionship aspect of my work. I am a gentle, reliable person who keeps safety at the forefront of my mind and compassion at the forefront of my actions. More recently I have spent the past four years caring for two different children on the Autism spectrum. I fell in love with this kind of work because my own brother struggled with epilepsy growing up and I have a particularly strong bond with him. I believe that "special needs" is a broad label for very specific needs. I believe in working consistently towards goals/independence/ and an overall sense of well-being for the individual.
