About Shelby

I am an early childhood educator with over a decade of experience in babysitting, nannying, childcare, and teaching! My teaching experience includes special education, Reggio-Emilia and play-based early childhood, reading intervention, and nature education. I have also worked in children's theatre and love imaginative, creative play! I have robust experience in creating learning provocations, sensory play, process-based art projects, and following children's interest to build an emergent curriculum. As a babysitter, I love engaging children in imaginative and pretend play, cooking with children, art projects, staying active, and building strong relationships with families! I have a Master's degree from Vanderbilt University in Child Studies and Development, in addition to being a licensed teacher in elementary and special education. My approach is informed by theories of child development and deep respect for children's agency, capabilities, and independence.
