We wrote a review for Shannon last year, and I don't see a way to update it, so I'm writing a new one--I hope that's okay! Shannon has been a lifesaver this year, truly. We parted ways a year ago because my work schedule got more demanding and her commute was just ridiculous (sometimes 1.5 hours one way!) and it was so hard to make it work well reliably with unpredictable traffic patterns. But there have been many times over the last year when we've needed either back-up care, or additional care, or date night care, and Shannon (when available) has been happy to brave the commute again to help us out. And every time, I have found myself wishing we could have just found a way to make the commute work somehow. Because she comes in and my kids' faces light up and she engages them and takes them to the discovery museum and then while they sleep, she works magic on my house. So the first part of the update is that she's now watched our younger child throughout her first year, and she took to Shannon right away. I was also impressed with how Shannon is completely undaunted to do outings with both kids or even help my out by getting groceries with both kids. (I can count on one hand the number of times I've braved a grocery store with both kids in tow over the last year.) Anyway, she's been great juggling the needs of both kids at once--not surprising since she has three kids of her own. The second part of the update is that I see Shannon has registered on care.com for cleaning and odds and ends jobs, so I just wanted to add my recommendation for those things. She was fabulous throughout her time with us and would manage to clean the house while entertaining the kids. It always looked better at the end of the day than at the beginning. She would even want to stay late to finish folding laundry or something if she hadn't finished by the time I got home. She was willing to do ANYTHING to help me out--I'm not kidding when I say I came home one day and asked her incredulously if she had cleaned my toilet? She had. She regularly did all household laundry (including folding/putting away), dishes, emptied the trash/recycling/diaper pail, cleaned off counters (both the clutter and the dirt), tidied toys, cleaned high chair area, and swiffered and vacuumed. If she noticed we needed milk, she would stop by the store on her way home from an outing with the kids. She was happy to do an entire grocery shopping if I left a list, or to run and pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy. Really--anything that was helpful. And she was oh so helpful. It was kind of like having a personal assistant. And I say that with reverence, not to belittle her work with us. I have two jobs and two kids and I was pregnant...I needed all the help I could get, and she was always such a relief for me. Hire her!!! =) I'm happy to answer any additional questions you might have about her.
