I have been a long term nanny for a family with a 3 (to 10) y/o boy with hallucinations, depression, ideations, attempts, inpatient care, and outpatient care and a 9 (to 16) y/o girl with epilepsy, on the autism spectrum, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and sometimes non-verbal. I regularly helped with the following: - Assisted with homework, transportation, medicine administration, food preparation, and of course fun activities during free time. They loved the zoo, dancing, playing with toys, drawing, making and playing with slime, and legos. - Learned how to help prevent seizures by avoiding known triggers. Experience with timing, administering rescue medicine as needed, and help with disorientation following it. - Figured out how to best support him and help him and his parents feel safe. - Worked with her when she was non-verbal usually from confusion or frustration. I learned her comfort items and ways to work through or redirect the stuck feeling.
