When I returned to school as an adult learner, I was struggling. In desperation I studied learning techniques and learned how I learn best. These skills got me an 3. 95 GPA and into Honors College but, most importantly, they taught me that I could succeed, given the right approach. This led me to train and tutor at University of Arizona's specialized alternative learning techniques center, to train in T. E. S. O. L. (Teaching English as a Second Language) and then to pursue an MA in the same, with a focus on using Creative Writing and story telling teachings that I picked up in my BA studies. My approach is relationship based. Learning requires building trust and self-confidence, and also keeping it lighthearted. I have used this same approach in my 15+ experience working with special needs children and adults, and in senior care.
