About Phil

I was born and raised in Tucson. I went away to college in Southern California studying physics, worked for a year in the solar observatory on Mt. Haleakala on Maui, then went to graduate school at the University of Hawaii in physics and astronomy. As a graduate student I worked as a research assistant in the astronomy department and as a teaching assistant teaching undergraduate labs in the physics department. I became disenchanted with physics and began blowing glass and worked in glass for a number of years in Honolulu and Utah. By now I have worked in ceramics, painted in watercolor, done photography and a series of acrylic abstracts on plexiglass. I enjoy cooking (my wife calls me a chef) and hiking, and I sing on the praise and worship team at my church. I try to cook and eat healthfully. I lived with and took care of my aging mother for approximately 25 years until she died at age 102 in 2012.
