After years working in neuroscience, psychology research and clinical care in the Harvard Med system, I found the importance of strong personal relationships to support community elders. As a companion, I practice: -Inspiration of hope -Personalized, dynamic life enrichment by having fun -Mutual partnership, empathy, validation, and shared discomfort around uncomfortable topics like aging, mental health and dementia -Support of agency in life -Sharing relevant lived experience -An equal power structure -Recognition and emphasis on skills and strengths people already have rather than deficits
