During the school closures due to Covid-19, I successfully implemented synchronous and asynchronous learning with my first-grade class. I used various tools and platforms to connect with students and provide meaningful, rigorous content and practice. These expierences strengthened my approach to teaching and emphasized my belief that all students can achieve, even in untraditional learning settings. Through synchronous and asynchronous teaching, I differentiated to support all learners. Because of these supports and differentiation, 50% of students increased their Language Arts grade and 81% of students increased their Math grade. In the classroom and in distance learning, I approach each student with respect and compassion, while holding high expectations that all students will be creative and critical thinkers. I celebrate diversity and will create a learning environment that promotes collaboration and creativity along with the development of deeper learning skills.
