About Maya

Hello parents! I have worked with children for 25 years, with 10 of those as a professional educator. I was a special day class teacher for Communicatively Impaired, as well as Regular Education classes, at the middle school level. All students in my Special Education class raised their grade levels by 2-3 years. I also taught grades K-6 as a substitute teacher in San Francisco and Marin County. Additionally, I've been a part-time Educational Childcare Specialist for over 15 years, incorporating fun educational activities into the daily routine. I believe the key to successfully educating children is assessing their interests, strengths, and weaknesses, using various modalities appropriate to the child's unique situation and capabilities and most importantly, connecting with them! A professional musician with a children's CD. I often utilize rhythm and rhyme to help with phonics, spelling, etc. As a nature lover and yoga teacher, I have a nurturing, patient, fun demeanor, and like to get kids outdoors for experiential learning opportunities.
