About Maia

I have my AA in Psychology and Culinary Arts, and my BA in English Literature. I'm presently a MA student concentrating in English Lit and Pedagogy. I love to incorporate art, music, video games, and theatre into my daily life for learning and entertainment. I value education, creativity, and happiness above all else. I believe the best way to learn isn't to be talked at and shown examples, but to be actively engaged and actively participate in lessons. As a classroom aide, I helped K-8 teachers prepare and enact their daily lesson plans, supervised student activities, graded papers, helped give lectures (on algebra, spelling, reading comprehension, and history), helped children with classwork, worked with students to develop social skills and conflict resolution, and performed light secretarial duties in the classroom. As a tutor, I relate as much as I can and draw in their own interests, hobbies, and skills into what's being worked on to truly reinforce the idea that learning is awesome and fun.
