Unfortunately, we had several concerning experiences with this caregiver over the course of a single day, and I would want another parent to have this information when making a hiring decision. She missed our scheduled in-person introduction and did not communicate that she would not be coming until hours later. During the day she cared for our infant, he fell and hit his head. Falls can happen with babies, but our biggest concern was the way the incident was handled and communicated. We did not feel she was forthcoming with us about what had happened, and we expect any fall or head injury involving our baby to be disclosed immediately and clearly. We also had concerns about basic caregiving judgment. We observed her putting her face within inches of our baby’s face, which made us uncomfortable from an illness-exposure and personal-boundary standpoint. Later, after he spit up on his clothing, she removed his clothes and left him undressed rather than changing him into clean clothes. Any one of these issues might have been something we could address through communication. Experiencing all of them within one day, particularly the lack of transparency surrounding our baby’s fall, left us unable to trust her with his care. We ended the arrangement after that day.
