My dear friend needed temporary care for her mother. It was a very challenging time for her large family who live all over the US. She reached out and I accepted. What I learned was that Eldercare was a perfect fit for me. I had been a nanny for years. I did not have experience with Seniors. The juxtaposition between the beginning of life and stories yet to be lived, and the transition to the end, where there are stories to be told, were gratifying for all. Companionship is key. Families are busy and cannot be on call 24/7. The stress is intense. Just by being a presence in my sweet lady's life, it let the family live more normally. I then joined a group of caregivers who mostly work out of Balfour and some private homes. It was very inspiring to me. Yes, there were passings. But the time we had together was good for all.
