I have decades of experience teaching and caring for children. A few years ago I was offered a position caring for an elderly woman. Surprisingly, many of the skills transferred over. Both require great patience, compassion, warmth and a sense of humor. I prepared her meals, monitored meds, took her to appts. etc. Next, I cared for an elderly man who required help with dressing, showering, and using the toilet. He had some dementia and suffered PTSD, so building rapport was vital. His wife often raved that 'he would only smile' for me. At this time, I also did physical therapy exercises with another elderly gentleman and cared for him- occasionally overnight- to help his wife after he suffered a stroke. I find this work rewarding and view it as much more than 'just a job'. This is your treasured family member and I never forget that! I'm looking forward to finding a mutually great match and making a new friend.

I hired Lezli to care for my senior husband while I was out of town. He is fragile and prone to falling, but otherwise can take care of himself. He did not want a caregiver, as he feels he doesn't need one, but as I told him, it was more for MY peace of mind!!! So he reluctantly agreed. The job was a tricky balance of "being there" for him, yet also respecting the independence he does have. Lezli knew how to balance his needs with his ego. She was friendly, kind, and helpful. She knew when to step-in, and when to step back. I'd interviewed her over FaceTime, but it's still nervewracking to have someone stay at your house with a vulnerable loved-one. But as soon as I opened the front door and met Lezli in-person, I felt very reassured we'd hired someone I could feel good about, and go on my trip knowing my spouse had someone there for him if he needed help.
